About the Competition
The U.S. Open Whiskey & Spirits Championship proudly partners with the renowned Niagara College Teaching Distillery to ensure world-class expertise in its judging process. A distinguished panel of judges—comprising Niagara College instructors, accomplished distillers, and seasoned industry experts—conducts evaluations with the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality.

The competition employs a rigorous blind judging format, where judges assess entries solely on merit, tasting each whiskey and spirit without knowledge of the brand, distillery, or origin. This commitment to fairness guarantees that every entry—from emerging craft producers to established names—competes on equal footing, with quality, flavor profile, and category adherence as the sole criteria.

Preliminary and final judging take place at the U.S. Open Event Center (known as “The Barn”) in Oxford, Ohio, the dedicated home of this prestigious event. This state-of-the-art venue provides an ideal setting for the meticulous, multi-round process that crowns the top whiskeys and spirits in North America each year.
